Does oral herpes symptoms decrease after each outbreak?

Posted by admin on October 31st, 2008

Hey everyone i’ve had coldsores( same thing as oral herpes right?) for about a year with only one outbreak so far which was just horrible to say the least. Is it true that outbreak symptoms will decrease after each outbreak? for example will there be less pimple like things?

Yes. I got it from drinking after someone when I was in the fifth grade. Apparently about 90% of the population has it whether they admit it or not, so don’t feel bad. My dentist uncle told my mom I got it from making out with boys, which was NOT TRUE, it was horrible.

Anyway… my first one was reeally bad, but from then on it was nothing at all like that first time. From now on it will be infrequent, and only one or two at a time. They still hurt like a b*tch though.

How long does it take to detect vaginal herpes?

Posted by admin on October 31st, 2008

I have had through out the years vaginal lesions. I didn't think they were vaginal warts because there was not a wart bump, but more like a open sore. I as the doctor a year ago if I could have herpes and she said I had to come in when I had an outbreak. Now I am pregnant and my doctor says I have herpes and will need cream to put on during the birth so my child wont get it. I have a son 5 years ago and the doctor never said anything about herpes to me then. Is the blood test for herpes a new test? Would it have been detected 5 years ago if I had it then?

You have to have a blood test done during an OUTBREAK, because the antibodies are in your system, trying to fight off the herpes virus. That is the only time it will show up in a test. If you didn't know you had herpes 5 years ago, then your doctor would not have known. Like I said, unless you told the doctor, or there was an outbreak (something for your doctor to see and TEST), then he would not have known. As for your current pregnancy, you need to be put on Valtrex (yes, it is safe), because if you have an outbreak and then have a vaginal birth, the baby will be exposed with potentially life threatening consequences. If you have an outbreak despite Valtrex when it is time to deliver your baby, your doctor will need to perform a c-section, NOT administer a "cream". This is serious business and it concerns me that your doctor is talking about creams and not putting you on medication.

Can Oral Contraceptives Cause Candida?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2008

Acidophilus is certainly a great way to take care of Candida overgrowth, but what if you don’t know you have Candidiasis? The truth is a Candida infection causes symptoms that closely resemble a slew of other illnesses. To make matters worse, many people continue to have an overgrowth of Candida in their system without knowing the cause. For instance, if you’re a woman taking birth control pills, did you know that you have a 20% higher risk of developing Candidiasis related infections than other women?

What is the relationship between Candida overgrowth and the Pill?
Birth control pills effect hormones and induce hormonal changes that lower a woman’s ability to control Candida overgrowth, which can trigger yeast infections.

Research has discovered that yeast cells have estrogen receptors which are stimulated by hormones in the birth control pill, and can cause the growth of yeast.

Most women who develop yeast infections from the Pill tend to have an outbreak when there is significant hormone chance such as when they -
- First begin taking oral contraceptives
- Are close to their period
- Change oral contraceptives
- Go back on the Pill after discontinuing use.

However, the vast majority of women who take the pill don’t develop yeast infections. Furthermore, yeast infections may develop due to other causes such as diet, antibiotics or other product use.

You can reduce the development of Candidiasis when taking oral contraceptives by:

- Sticking to cotton undergarments - Make sure your panties have cotton lining, but it’s best to wear all-cotton underwear. Nylon traps moisture against your skin and doesn’t absorb moisture like cotton does to keep skin dry. Trapped moisture breeds bacteria growth. You should also avoid nylon and spandex leotards when working out.

- Change out of exercise clothing - After you’ve exercised remove your clothing and put on dry clothes as soon as possible, even if you can’t take a shower.

- Sleep without underwear - This will help your vaginal area to breath.

- Minimize the use of panty liners - Wearing panty liners every day can increase the risk of yeast infection because the plastic on the bottom of the liners locks in moisture. Also, when on your period, change your pad frequently.

- Lower the sugar in your diet - Refrain from eating foods that contain high sugars, as sugar encourages the growth of yeast. It’s also a good idea to add yogurt that contains “active bacterial culture” to your diet to help replenish the good bacteria you need in your system that helps control yeast overgrowth.

- Avoid perfumes - Do not use scented toilet paper or feminine hygiene products this can cause irritation. In addition, if you are sensitive to perfume you also shouldn’t take scented baths.

- Avoid douching - This washes out the good bacteria and creates an imbalance making you open to infection.

When to see your doctor

- If you have never had a vaginal yeast infection before - you should make sure you have is a yeast infection. Some sexually transmitted diseases like Herpes, can present symptoms similar to a yeast infection. Additionally, if you’ve never had a yeast infection, it’s best to ask your doctor what over-the-counter product they recommend to help clear your infection.

There are many products and not all work to eliminate yeast. Two of the more effective and recommended products available are those that contain miconazole (Monistat 7) and clotrimazone (Gyne-Lotrimin).

- If you have repeat yeast infections (4 or more per year) - If you are taking oral contraceptives and are developing frequent yeast infections you may want to discuss other methods of birth control with your doctor, and carefully consider your diet and lifestyle. You may also want to have your male partner checked for a yeast infection, especially if he is not circumcised, as he may be passing it on to you.

Siberian Ginseng - Medicinal Uses, Interactions, Side Effects, Dosage

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2008

Siberian Ginseng

Eleutherococcus senticosus (syn. Acanthopanax senticosus) is in the same botanic family as the Panax ginsengs (Araliaceae), but is not a member of the Panax genus and is therefore not considered a true ginseng. E. senticosus, also known as Eleuthero, is commonly referred to as Siberian or Russian ginseng because it is indigenous to Eastern Russia. The root or root bark is used medicinally.

Uses and Benefits:

Siberian ginseng is claimed to have powerful adaptogenic and tonic properties that can modulate stress and improve mental and physical performance under a wide variety of stressful conditions. It was discovered by Soviet researchers who were searching for an alternative to Asian ginseng and other adaptogenic herbs. Officially approved for use in Russia in 1962, Siberian ginseng became a popular commercial drink to help improve endurance. In traditional Chinese medicine, this plant is considered a minor tonic (named ci wu jia). It has been employed for bronchitis, digestion, heart ailments, rheumatism, headaches, and insomnia, and to generally restore vigor and health.

Pharmacology:

The eleutherosides (A-G) are considered the most important constituents in the roots of Siberian ginseng. Unlike the ginsenosides of the Panax genus, however, the eleutherosides are a chemically diverse group of plant chemicals (Iignans, sterols, phenylpropanoids, coumarins, and others), and are not unique to E. senticosus.Soviet researchers conducted numerous animal experiments with Siberian ginseng, and reported enhanced physical endurance and resistance to infection, radiation, cancer, toxins, and iI variety of environmental extremes. Anabolic, estrogenic, anliviral, hypotensive, and many other effects have also been demonstrated in animal models. Conflicting reports in which extracts induced both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia in animals, or enhanced both CNS sedation and stimulation, have been explained by the “adaptogenic” properties of the herb. Alternatively, it may also be explained by different extracts or experimental conditions. Most of the earlier animal endurance studies were unblinded, which also raises the question of investigator bias; a more recent blinded study was negative.

Limited pharmacologic data is available in humans. In a reportedly double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 10 ml t.i.d. of a German product for 4 weeks significantly increased lymphocytes by about 50% in 36 healthy volunteers. In an unblinded, randomized, controlled study, 25 drops t.i.d. of an ethanolic root extract decreased glucose and cholesterol (total, LOL, and triglycerides), and increased neutrophil and lymphocyte activity in 50 healthy volunteers.

Clinical Trials:

Most of the original Russian clinical studies have been reviewed and summarized. Initial research reported that athletes performed better; sportsmen had better endurance and concentration; and workers had fewer sick days when taking Siberian ginseng. In multiple studies that included over 2100 healthy subjects, Siberian ginseng was reported to demonstrate adaptogenic effects to help subjects withstand various adverse conditions and stressors (work load, noise, motion, heat, etc.), resulting in enhanced work performance. Studies in over 2200 unhealthy patients reported “benefits” in various diseases such as atherosclerosis and heart disease, acute pyelonephritis, diabetes, chronic bronchitis, hypertension and hypotension, trauma, neuroses, and cancer. However, outcome measures and actual clinical benefits are not well defined. Moreover, these studies were uncontrolled or unblinded, and would not meet today’s standards for high-quality clinical research.

In more recent controlled trials, benefits for athletic endurance were initially reported in a single-blind, placebo-controlled study, and improvements in muscle strength demonstrated in a placebocontrolled trial with unclear blinding. A Chinese study also reported an increased anaerobic threshold of power load emd decreased respiratory quotient (suggesting enhanced fat metabo” lism during exercise). However, more rigorous double-blind studies have failed to verify these potential beneficial effects. A series of small controlled trials using treadmill or cycle ergometry found no ergonomic benefits for a brand of Siberian ginseng called Endurox. Another well-designed trial of 20 runners found no ergonomic benefits with an ethanolic extract of eleutherosides Band E given daily for 6 weeks compared to placebo. A well-designed, double-blind, crossover study found no measurable ergonomic or metabolic benefits in nine cyclists, randomly given placebo or 1200 mg Siberian ginseng daily for 7 days before two separate endurance cycling trials.

Adverse Effects:

Siberian ginseng is considered safe and nontoxic, although data is limited. No side effects were reported in any of the recent human trials, and there are no well-documented case reports of adverse effects. In the original Russian studies, adverse events were not reported in otherwise healthy subjects, although it was suggested that Siberian ginseng should not be used when blood pressures exceed 180/90. In “unhealthy” patients, insomnia, arrhythmias, hypertension, headaches, irritability, and anxiety reactions were occasionally reported. Caution is thus advised for patients with cardiac disease, hypertension, psychiatric diseases, or when using caffeine or other stimulants, although these potential side effects are not well established.

Side Effects and Interactions:

In two separate case reports, adulterated or mislabeled eleutherococcus preparations (most likely with Periploca sepium, which contains cardioactive glycosides) were associated with androgenization in a newborn and with an increased digoxin level absent toxicity. Safety of Siberian ginseng is unknown in women who are pregnant or breast feeding.

Preparations & Doses:

Multiple products are on the U.S. market, from dried herb preparations to a variety of extracts. In the original Russian studies, doses were usually taken for up to 4-8 weeks at a time, interrupted by 2-to 3-week ginseng-free intervals; however, there is no data to support these regimens. Common doses of encapsulated extracts currently on the market include one to three 100-400 mg capsules given 2-3 times daily, roughly equivalent to 1-4 g/day or more of a dried root product.

Summary Evaluation:

Siberian ginseng is commonly used as an adaptogen to help modulate responses to stressors and to enhance mental and physical stamina and endurance. These claims are primarily based on animal studies and early clinical investigations by Soviet researchers. Siberian ginseng does not enhance physical endurance based on more recent, well-designed clinical trials. Limited studies suggest that Siberian ginseng may enhance WBC activity, reduce cholesterol and glucose, enhance memory, and benefit patients with herpes simplex infections, but these studies require confirmation and, in general, the efficacy of Siberian ginseng is not established beyond a reasonable doubt for any indication. Based on limited data, Siberian ginseng appears safe, with no well-documented adverse effects.

can a man with herpes have these symptoms if not treated?

Posted by admin on October 29th, 2008

loss of apetite, cough that goes on for a long time, sore throath, headaches, aching joints, arthrites .r they the symptoms of herpes?
he got flu too. it comes and goes

no i don't believe that those are not herpes symptoms. those sound like a bad cold or just the flu. once u have herpes they can be treated but not cured. meaning that the virus will be in your body for the rest of your life.
if u are talking about the genital type then symptoms are usually
aching muscles and fever generally a mild flu like feeling
swollen genital glands and or genitals
burning or trouble when peeing
itching, burning and or tingeling sensation all at once
white raised blisters or open sores break out on the gentials
for the oral type that usually happens on the face but can be transfered to other parts of the body like genitals, eyes, nose and inside the mouth
dry skin, itching, burning, tingeling sensation all at the site of an outbreak then a cut, pimple like sore or open sore would appear.

How come some herpes blisters are more extreme then others?

Posted by admin on October 29th, 2008

When i look up herpes on google images, it shows these really gross pictures of people with herpes all over there genitals and/or bodies. I have a cold sore on my lip, which probably means Herpes HSV-1, i think. How would i keep my cold sores from getting really big and spread out like on the google image search and how do their herpes get so extreme(the people on the google image search)?

Pictures on google do tend to be of the most extreme cases - first ever outbreaks etc and of the few people who have a real problem with herpes because they have it so severely.

I have genital herpes hsv-1, and have never had anything that looked as bad as bad as the MILDEST picture I found on the internet.

My outbreaks, though in a different place, look more like this:

http://www.coldsore.co.nz/images/cold-sore-lip.jpg

probably not even that bad.

Most people I know that get cold sores, it is little more than a dot on the lip - you would need a magnifying glass to see my boyfriend’s! My genital outbreaks are the same.

I have known one or two people who get bad ones though - but they are just the unlucky people, theirs are always bad, doesn’t mean everyone else will get them like that.

If you haven’t had a cold sore that bad before, you aren’t likely to. Those are just pics doctors take of the worst case scenarios of people whose immune systems have a problem dealing with it.

All About Eczema

Posted by admin on October 28th, 2008

There are many skin problems that can affect us and eczema is one of them. The severity of this condition can vary from a type of eczema to another and from person to person. This word, eczema come from Greek and can be translated as to boil. This skin condition, eczema can look very ugly, but a good thing to know about is it is that eczema is not contagious.

Like in any disease, eczema has its symptoms as well. The main eczema symptoms are a red, dry and inflamated skin. The main characteristic of eczema is itching. In the areas affected by eczema you can also see small blisters, filled with fluid that can become crusted in time. The main body parts that are affected by eczema are the hands, face, elbows and the back part of your knees. However, eczema can cover almost all your body.

There are many factors that can cause an eczema. The causes of eczema depend mostly on what type of eczema you have. The types of eczema that exist may look very alike, but in fact they are very different, because these types of eczema have different causes. Here are the types of eczema that somebody may have.

First there is the atopic eczema and it is the most common of all the types of eczema. As many a one in five children may suffer from atopic eczema. This eczema type is considered to be hereditary. Contact eczema is another type of eczema, that develops when you have been in contact with something that your skin does not aprove of. It has similar symptoms to atopic eczema. Another type of eczema is the allergic contact eczema. Most of the people that suffer from this eczema are not born with this sensibility, but develop it in time.

Irritant contact eczema is caused by daily contact with some substances that can irritate your skin, like detergents.

There can also be complications in cases of eczema, if they are not treated well. In the case of atopic eczema, you might develop herpeticum. This happens when your eczema becomes infected by a virus called herpes. This is a very serious medical condition.

The diagnosing of eczema is not very complicated. Doctors usually diagnose eczema only by the apereance of your skin. There is also the case, when you have allergic eczema, to use a test that can tell you what you are allergic to.

Facts About Adenosine Monophosphate (AMP)

Posted by admin on October 28th, 2008

Are you aware that your body produces adenosine monophosphate (AMP)? If not, then you should be aware of that. In fact, adenosine monophosphate is a substance that is produced by our body in every minute of the day as part of the metabolic process. With that fact, many people think of it as a byproduct of their bodys attempt to make energy from the foods that they intake everyday.

The adenosine monophosphate has several benefits or advantages. Specifically, the adenosine monophosphate is applied to help limit the serious nerve related pain, which is scientifically known as post-herpetic neuralgia or PHN. This pain sometimes tags on a short period of shingles, which is a skin rash that is caused by the herpes zoster virus.

In relation to that, it seemed understandable that those people who acquire persistent shingles-related pain may have low concentrations of the adenosine monophosphate in their systems. And so adenosine monophosphate is used to treat this pain by means of intramuscular injections for it promotes faster clearance of the herpes zoster virus, which then results to a faster from PHN pain.

Adenosine monophosphate injections are greatly considered by most nutritionally oriented doctors as worthwhile tactic for fast relief and to remedy the post-herpetic neuralgia, particularly in instances in which unremitting pain occur. It is as well considered that a special gel form is formed for the doctor administered shots.

However, after all those facts, there are certain reports which mentioned that it is still not vivid that adenosine monophosphate supplements that are taken orally will have any effect on shingles pain. And aside from treating shingles, this supplement is also used to treat photosensitivity or extreme sensitivity to light, yet still more research study is need before forming any recommendations for this treatment.

For those who are interested to purchase the supplement, just note that AMP is now sold in an injectable form at a 25 mg/ml concentration. In applying the adenosine monophosphate the doctor draws up two syringes, each of those containing 2 mg of the AMO solution, and then injects the contents into the muscles of each upper arm. Just be aware that the solution must not be injected into the area of the shingles lesions. In addition, the physician makes these injections every other day for a total of 10 treatments.

In relation to the above mentioned facts, it is also noted that the AMP can also be made intravenously by a physician, by mixing it with a 150 ml of saline and then slowly permitted to drip into the system.

And for the application of the adenosine monophosphate one should be aware that only the doctors who are familiar with the application of the supplement should provide the patient with these injections. And in terms of the intramuscular injections of the supplement, most of the people develop chest pain because of the tightening of the muscles of the chest wall, so this reaction can commonly be avoided by means of spacing the two injections 30 minutes apart. That is how the AMP should be applied.

What are the symptoms for genital herpes?

Posted by admin on October 27th, 2008

When I was about 13 or 14 I started getting sores on my labia right around my period. When I asked my then gyno what it was he said I probably was having a sensitive reaction to a certain kind of soap. I'm 21 now and I still get the sores, i've been trying to use non-allergic soap and it doesn't work. I'm wondering if its herpes because I usually get the one sore in the same spot over and over again…it bleeds and itches a lot. Is this herpes?

what are you waiting for? go to the doctor when you get the sore period or no period. just go and let them take a look

What is the best treatment for herpes and how effective is it?

Posted by admin on October 27th, 2008

What impact does herpes have in a new relationship? I asked earlier about timing of telling someone when dating but I need more information such as treatment and outcome. Can it not be passed on or is this rare?

Valtrate is the medicine that is prescribed this helps if used in small dose daily keep outbreaks at bay.
When outbreak occurs via weeping blisters then Valtrate is doubled this shortens length and severity of outbreak.
They are after all only small cold sores in clusters, so other than the psychological trauma of knowing that anytime you are rundown or traumatised in any way outbreaks do often occur.
You can pass on the virus even when not active by shedding miniscule particles.
Condoms are mandantory to restrict infection during sexual contact but still not foolproof.
It can't be stressed enough to abstain from sexual contact whilst suffering outbreak as most infectious during this time.
If your partner is fully aware of this and thinks enough of you then it shouldn't be an issue.
Honesty is the only policy as whilst 1 in 5 Americans carry disease some do not even know they carry it.
It might seem a stigma to carry but as said that it can be managed, life is still the same,it's not a death sentence…
