What are signs and symptoms of herpes and what can u get from kissing?

Posted by admin on December 30th, 2008

You can get oral herpes (the same thing as common cold sores and they are contagious) from kissing and mono besides that the risks are pretty low for any thing else through kissing. You can't get genital herpes from kissing some one on the mouth, unless they have genital herpes on their mouth which is not too common.
If the person your kissing has visible cold sores at the time, then they can spread them to your mouth.
Common symptoms for oral herpes:
Painful itching, burning and or tingling sensations usually localized to one spot usually around the out side of the mouth.
A blister or pimple breaks out where the above symptoms are taking place. This can turn into a larger sore, cut or blister. These can last for 1-2 weeks. Once you have any type of herpes you will have it for the rest of your life.

Can genital herpes be transmitted to mouth during unprotected oral sex?

Posted by admin on December 30th, 2008

i know there is genital herpes and oral herpes, can it be transferred to the mouth during oral sex? thank you!

Yes it can!

if your partner has genital herpes and you perform oral sex on him or her, you can pick up the virus if you don’t already have it, and that can result in oral herpes.

Want to avoid this? Here’s how:
1. Use a flavored condom on your partner during fellatio. Or use a sheet of plastic cling film on your partner during cunnilingus.
2. Never engage in sexual activity while you or your partner is having an outbreak of blisters.

Does sharing needle give the user herpes or HPV, and when do first herpes and HPV symptoms appear?

Posted by admin on December 28th, 2008

the above question, and after the initial infection from sharing needles, how long does it take for symptoms from herpes and hpv to show up?

Er, herpes (HSV-1/-2)and HPV are not the viruses I would worry about when sharing needles. HSV and HPV are spread mainly by skin-to-skin contact and are not blood-borne. They also do not survive exposed in the environment for very long. If a person pierced an active HPV or HSV lesion (wart or cold sore, respectively) and then the needle was shared immediately, it is possible…but I'd call that a very unlikely event.

The viruses you should be worried about are HIV (causes AIDS), Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C. All serious, chronic infection (i.e. not curable). Order of infectivity: HepB > HepC > HIV, each by about a factor of ten.

Can you get genital herpes from a cold sore?

Posted by admin on December 28th, 2008

I’ve heard from some people that you can get genital herpes via oral sex after having a cold sore and I’ve heard from others that you can’t becuase they’re different strans of herpes. But let’s say someone performs oral sex and gets a cold sore a couple days later, should the person who received the oral sex be concerned about getting genital herpes?

There are indeed two strains of herpes. HSV1, which “prefers” the mouth but can infect the genitals, and HSV2, which “prefers” the genitals but can infect the mouth.

Herpes is spread through skin-to-skin contact - so basically kissing for oral-to-oral transmission, genital sex for genital-to-genital transmission, and oral sex for oral-to-genital or genital-to-oral transmission.

The best site that I know for info about oral herpes is below.

Good luck.

how long after the last time that you have intercourse do you get the symptoms of herpes, thats if you get inf

Posted by admin on December 26th, 2008

because i the last time i had intercourse was last october and i just recently started getting symptoms of herpes.

Herpes is contracted through direct skin contact (not necessarily in the genital area) with an infected person, and less frequently by indirect contact (for instance, by sharing lip balm or a virus infested shared towel). The virus travels through tiny breaks in the skin (or mucous membranes in the mouth and genital areas), so, healthy skin and mucous membranes are normally an effective barrier to infection. However, in the case of mucous membranes, even microscopic abrasions are sufficient to expose the nerve endings into which the virus splices itself. This is why most herpes transmission happens in mucous membranes, or in areas of the body where mucous membranes and normal skin merge (e.g., the corners of the mouth).
Symptoms may not appear for up to a month or more after infection. Transmission was thought to be most common during an active outbreak; however, in the early 1980s, it was found that the virus can be shed from the skin in the absence of symptoms. So that is why it is SO important to use Herpes Preventive medicines like Acyclovir, Valtrx and Famvir to help prevent and aid in the herpes healing process. Will I get genital herpes worse from a partner who has bad outbreaks?

Posted by admin on December 26th, 2008

I have been diagnosed with genital herpes, but have never had any visible or difficult outbreaks that Im aware of(diagnosed 10 years ago). I am in relationship with a woman who also has genital herpes, but has the regular unpleasant outbreaks about every 18 months to 2 years. We are not yet sexually intimate and will not be until marriage. By becoming sexual with her, will it become possible that my herpes condition will become worse, perhaps, more of a severity like hers? Is there anything that can be done to lessen the effects of transmission, once we do become sexual?

You both have genital herpes. If you both have the same type ie type 2, you cannot transmit it to each other because you both already have genital herpes. You cannot catch the same type again. Having sex with her should not make the slightest difference. Do avoid having sex whe either of you is having an outbreak, but apart form that, why worry. It is all down, not the the virus, but to the immune system of the individual. I and my sister both have genital herpes type1. She gets horrible outbreaks once every few years, she went for six years without, I get very mild outbreaks every couple of months. People just have bodies that dela with the virus differently.

Do the flu-like symptoms of herpes always occur before the outbreak?

Posted by admin on December 24th, 2008

I got a very sore throat with white lines on my tonsils days after an outbreak started. I'm wondering if this is just part of the outbreak or whether I happened to get strep at the same time.

Usually flu like symptoms come with the first couple of out breaks it's more like soreness in your muscles and a fever. Also it's more common with genital herpes to have flu like symptoms then oral herpes (unless there is a really bad out break of oral herpes) to have flu like symptoms and oral herpes more commonly affects the outside of the mouth but it can occur on the inside of the mouth.
This could be strep throat or tonsillitis. There could be other symptoms going on down there like painful itching, burning or tingling sensations it would feel like they are coming from under the skin of the genitals.

What is the best kind of doctor to see for herpes?

Posted by admin on December 24th, 2008

I've had herpes for 2 years now and am taking suppressive therapy, but am still having more outbreaks than I'd like. What kind of doctor would be the best to see? I'm looking for someone who will have some different ideas on ways I can improve my situation. I know that gynecologist might seem like the obvious answer, but most of those seem to be more into delivering babies where I live. What about a dermatologist? Thanks!

Zovirax & Valtrex only seemed to keep my symptoms "JUST below the skin" and I still had tingling & itching like I was about to have an outbreak…
the herbal remedies actually helped alot more!

how long do it take until the signs and symptoms for genital herpes start showing for women?

Posted by admin on December 22nd, 2008

Usually anywhere from 2-20 days, but it can take several months and sometimes even years for a person to have their first outbreak. This can make it difficult sometimes for a person to determine who they actually got the virus from.

I personally contracted the virus almost 6 years ago. It took me about 3 weeks to have my first outbreak. I had tingling, itching and muscle aches. Herpes also has a very distinctive pain.

These are some symptoms for women:
* Flulike symptoms, such as fever, headache, and muscle aches. These symptoms usually get better within a week.
* Tingling, burning, itching, and redness at the site where an outbreak is about to occur (prodrome).
* Painful, itchy blisters on the vulva, or inside the vagina. Blisters may also appear on the anus, buttocks, thighs, either alone or in clusters. They may be barely noticeable or as large as a coin.
* Blisters that break and become shallow, painful, oozing sores.
* Swollen and tender lymph nodes in the groin.
* Painful urination.
* Abnormal vaginal discharge.

Can I get herpes from my girlfriend who has genital herpes when I give her oral?

Posted by admin on December 22nd, 2008

My girlfriend recently learned that her ex gave her genital herpes. Can I get herpes from her by giving her oral when she's not experiencing an outbreak? And can I get genital herpes from her by having unprotected sex during a time when she's not having an outbreak?

Thanks.

There is less then a 10 percent chance of getting herpes when your partner does not have an out break. That is even further reduced if she was on some kind of suppressive therapy (ie Valtrex). Genital herpes can be passed to the mouth but it usually likes to live and occur on the genitals. Meaning there is a small risk of you getting herpes while she doesn't have an out break, either on your mouth or genitals. You can use condoms when she doesn't have an out break but I should warn you that condoms do not offer 100 percent protection against herpes, percent because they don't cover all areas of the genitals that herpes can affect but it should cut your risk of getting herpes down a little.
