Shingles Treatment and Symptoms

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2009

Shingles or the Herpes Zoster may not need a doctor to identify. In fact, the person affected by the ailment can easily diagnose it by the symptoms that are hard to miss. It usually starts with a headache, sensitivity to light, and a feeling of chilliness and nausea with or without a fever. There is also itching, tingling and acute pain where the rash will ultimately develop. The intensity of the pain can be felt as quick stabs of throbbing and stinging ache, making the patient twitchy and restless.

Shingles occur primarily in two stages - the Prodromal stage and the Eruptive stage.

Symptoms of shingles in the Prodromal stage (2 to 5 days before the appearance of rashes), there is a chilly feeling, nausea, headache and fever that is followed by a feeling of lack of sensation on a side of the face or body. And then comes the severe pain, burning and scratchy feeling that may last long or just be intermittent. At this stage the pain is accompanied by the scratchy feeling that happens on any side of the body or the face.

In the Eruptive stage however reddish flush appears along with blisters (singly or in clusters) on the skin. These are filled with a clear fluid and are sensitive to the touch. New blisters continue to form for up to 5 or more days, depending on the intensity of the outbreak. They may be found all over the place and may also run in a continuous band form. Incidentally, they appear almost like chicken pox. Severe pain, scratchy and somewhat irritating - this is how the blisters feel.

After about 15 days, the clear fluid contained within the blisters change color and begins to get translucent as compared to their original transparent look, ultimately resembling small sets of pearls on the skin. This is when they are filled with pus. Scabs begin to get formed.

Though the blisters generally do not leave any undesirable tell tale marks on the skin but some discoloration stays for quite sometime even after the skin is free of them.

A significant fact about shingles is that the blisters almost always appear on one side of the body - the torso, one side of the face, arms, legs or the waistline. When diagnosing shingles, and its symptoms, this factor need to kept in mind. Also, in some cases, urticaria or ‘hives’ may form instead of blisters, but nevertheless, they also are symptoms for shingles.

In some cases, the shingles rash may look as those of Poison Oak or Poison Ivy at the initial stage but the confusion will be cleared in a few days when the blisters start forming since none of the other two have any such manifestations. In case of doubt, fluid collected from the blisters may be tested in a laboratory to confirm the infection.

Symptoms for shingles may also be gathered from a blood count that will reveal elevated number of WBC or white blood cells. A significant rise in the antibody to the virus is another symptom of shingles

Learn About Genital Herpes And Stop Being Affected

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2009

There are many things which are considered to be taboo subjects to discuss openly in public. One such topic is that of genital herpes. The fact is that most people will go to extraordinary lengths to avoid these subjects but in some cases this can be detrimental to the health of the person.

Genital Herpes not only effects a person physically, but has great potential to emotionally devastate them as well. The emotional scars can lead many to seek additional outside mental help.

The person who suffers from genital herpes will sometimes find their lives turned upside down and will be unable to deal with the situation. It need not be this way, but regrettably sometimes the emotional affect genital herpes can have on a person can be greater than the actual medical examination condition itself.

This is not to say that genital herpes isn’t serious or a potentially serious condition, only that some people will find they need more help to cope with the emotional wound of having contracted a sexually transmitted disease than others will.

For these people care needs to be given not only to treat the active condition but also the mental and emotional health of the person. Although there are many areas that are affected, here are just a few areas in which people feel the most:

* Lack of self esteem

* Feelings of guilt

* Anger

* Feelings of shame

* Depression

Although this list is in no way exhaustive, it gives you an idea of the emotional affects genital herpes can have on ones life.

These feelings and emotional states can come about as the consequence of many things:

* such as being rejected by their partner for having a sexually transmitted disease

* being ineffective to cope with the realness of genital herpes

* being unable to deal with any residual scarring of the genital area

Although for the most part genital herpes blisters will go away themselves, there may sometimes be scarring as a consequence of the blisters. This can be due to the severity and the spread of the blisters themselves. If you feel you have contracted this condition get checked immediately. The sooner the better.

Meanwhile, To help with the pain which may be felt with genital herpes blisters you might want to try bathing the affected area in a salt solution comprising of half a teaspoon of salt mixed with half a pint of warm water. This will not only soothe the affected area but it also has the added benefits of drying out the sores.

You might also want to avoid such things as tanning beds and sunbathing. Avoid wearing tight fitting clothing which won’t allow your genital area to breathe. This includes panties, tight fitting briefs for men, bathing suites for long periods of time and nylons on a regular basis.

If you find that urinating is painful due to the urine leaving over the sores, you can either pour water over yourself as you urinate, or you can try to urinate inside a bath of water. Although this may not seem to practical, if you feel enough pain you may not have any other choice.

What you really need to do though when you have genital herpes is get a lot of rest. You body needs it and now is as a good a time as any to start listening to it.

Remember, if you feel the symptoms of genital herpes, overcome the fear of what others will think and get some medical help. You will be grateful that you did.

Are You Suffering From Combined Candida Yeast Chronic Fatigue Symptoms?

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2009

If you or a loved one is suffering with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, it is worth exploring the potential candida yeast chronic fatigue link.

Candida yeast can be harmless and co-exist on or in the human body for the majority of the time. However, if allowed to grow excessively then it can become a real cause for concern, and in some severe cases a candida infection can become life threatening if left untreated.

As well as being an uncomfortable infection it can also contribute towards a number of other medical problems such as irritable bowel syndrome, gas and bloating and also fatigue. In this article we will look more closely at just what the relationship is between Candida Yeast and Chronic Fatigue.

In some cases, where the actual clinical signs of a Candida yeast infection may not be obvious, they can still trigger other symptoms and complications.

Certainly, many people who suffer from a yeast infection but do not show the normal signs of the infection may find that they suffer from fatigue, become irritable, and can suffer from constipation or diarrhea or both plus many other symptoms.

However there are some researchers who are suggesting that a change in a person’s normally healthy levels of bacteria found in the intestine could play a part in a person suffering from the symptoms associated with Chronic Fatigue. These bacteria are a defense mechanism against bacterial infection, virus’ and yeast infections. They also play an important role in ensuring we maintain a strong immune system and an effective digestive function.

As yet there is no evidence to show which, if any, specific type of virus or infection is the single cause for a person to suffer from chronic fatigue.

Yet it has been shown that people who have CFS often have an elevated levels of anti-bodies to organisms which can cause Lyme disease, Candida (yeast infections), HHV-t (Herpes virus Type 6) along with Measles and Parvovirus.

So, the link seems conclusive, except that researchers have spent vast amounts of time looking at the possibility that some sort of virus of other infectious agents, for example Candida yeast is the cause of chronic fatigue. But at present there is no firm evidence to prove that this is the case.

The difficulty in diagnosing a link between chronic fatigue and candida, or any other infection is understandable. It is hard to spot a trend, as many people suffer from virus and yeast infection’s, but do not then go on to suffer with chronic fatigue syndrome.

Interestingly, there has been some research carried out that showed if a person follows an anti-candida diet, then it can help with the CFS symptoms.

These diets require a restricted intake of sugars, yeast products and processed foods. Although, this research was not carried out on a large scale, it does indicate that there can be benefits to changing to a healthy diet that can re-energize the immune system.

Continue reading to discover how to sign up to our free newsletter and discover natural ways to combat candida infections.

So, although there seems to be plenty of anecdotal evidence of a candida yeast chronic fatigue connection, there is no conclusive proof to that effect. The best advice that anyone can give is that you should react to any indication of symptoms of candida overgrowth and work to eliminate it as soon as possible. In this way you can minimize the risk of complications.

Genital Herpes Pictures

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2009

Unless you’re a medical student or otherwise of the medical profession, genital herpes pictures are not something that you want to see. For the person with the queasy stomach genital herpes pictures should come with a warning, “Not for the fainthearted”!

Not everyone can look on such candid images and feel nothing bar interest. Most people will, for the most part, feel downright nauseous. It’s not a pretty sight at the best of times and if you’re not prepared to see them, genital herpes pictures can be something of a shock to your system.

That said, for the eager young medical student who has a detached and analytical mind, and who doesn’t mind viewing such disturbing images, there is simply nothing wrong with genital herpes pictures. In fact some hardy people can even view these images whilst indulging in a meal!

Obviously this is not for everyone and when you look around on the internet for genital herpes pictures you will find that most sites will mention the fact that there are genital herpes pictures on their web pages. This will give you prior warning if all you want is the information and not the graphical representation of genital herpes.

If you’re looking for more information however than you can find on the genital herpes based information websites then your next best bet at finding it along with genital herpes pictures is in medical journals and text books.

These founts of medical information will be able to readily give you all the information you need as well as being able to supply you with necessary genital herpes pictures.

If on the other hand you’re looking for genital herpes pictures and information because you yourself have of late become afflicted with the herpes simplex virus – that’s the virus which causes herpes – then you might find yourself wanting to trawl through the numerous websites which seem to be teeming with genital herpes pictures.

As mentioned not everyone can stomach these images so sometimes you will find that images have been placed at the very end of web page so that people who come only for the information will not be bombarded by genital herpes pictures first thing.

For this reason if you find a website which seems promising but which doesn’t seem to yield up any genital herpes pictures, try scrolling down to the very bottom of the page, or looking for a link of some sort which will direct to you the relevant page.

Venereal Disease Symptoms

Posted by admin on February 23rd, 2009

Venereal diseases or VD’s are sexually transmitted diseases, and in just about every case they are highly contagious. Infection normally occurs through sexual contact with another infected person. In this context sexual contact refers to oral, anal and vaginal sex. The different venereal disease symptoms will also change from one venereal disease to another.

As mentioned, venereal diseases can be passed on through sexual contact with an infected person. Most venereal diseases require the exchange of bodily fluids to be contagious, but in some cases skin-to-skin contact is all that it will take.

If a person displays any venereal disease symptoms, they should get a confirmed diagnosis first and foremost. Even the whiff of venereal disease symptoms should ideally be enough for a person to abstain from sexual relations until the suspicions have been refuted.

Unfortunately, most people either ignore such venereal disease symptoms, or on the other end of the spectrum, are in complete ignorance of any type of venereal disease symptoms. In light of the vast number of venereal diseases which are making the social rounds these days however, this can be understandable and even forgivable.

Some of the more well known venereal diseases include, HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, HSV (Genital Herpes), HPV (Genital Warts), and Yeast Infections.

Venereal disease symptoms for AIDS indications, is mainly a breakdown of the immune system which can lead to the body being exposed to various other viruses, infections, and medical conditions. There is as yet no cure for AIDS.

For Genital Warts (HPV) the venereal disease symptoms include, pain of the affected area, a burning sensation, warts in and around the genital area, flesh colored lesions, and in some instances moisture or dampness around the affected area.

For Genital Herpes (HSV), the main venereal disease symptoms are blisters and sores which can be very painful to a person. There can also be muscle aches, backaches, fever, and a burning or pain when urinating as the urine passes over the sores or blisters.

For Yeast Infections, venereal disease symptoms include an intense itching sensation, thick cottage cheese-like vaginal discharge, pain, a burning sensation of the affected areas and pain during sexual intercourse.

For Syphilis, the venereal disease symptoms take on a slightly different route. To begin with a sore will normally develop (and heal of its own accord), and this will normally be painless.

After a few weeks have passed, a person will then get flu-like symptoms along with a rash which will also disappear of its own accord. After that no more outward symptoms will occur, but the Syphilis infection will remain. In this next instance a slow breakdown of the central nervous system will occur.

As can be seen venereal disease symptoms are many and varied. Some of the symptoms might be superficially alike, but it’s only when you put together all of the facts that you will get the entire picture and be able to place the correct venereal disease symptoms with the correct venereal disease.

Herpes and Genital Warts

Posted by admin on February 23rd, 2009

There are many diseases and conditions in this world, and some are talked about with gusto while others are talked about in hushed voices with maybe a furtive glance or two over the shoulder to make sure no one has overheard. And one of these socially taboo subjects is that of herpes and genital warts.

Both herpes and genital warts are classed as Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s) and both are contagious. For the most part you will contract both herpes and genital warts through sexual relations with an infected person. This means through oral sex, anal sex as well as vaginal sex.

In a few cases however, it has been noted that you can also get both herpes and genital warts through contact with the personal items of an infected person, such as clothing, especially clothing which comes into contact with the infected area, and even towels.

This is why it’s always a good idea to keep separate any clothing, toweling or bedding an infected person will use. These items should also be laundered separately, until the infection has run its course, and afterwards as well for about a week or two. These are of course just precautionary measures and may not work fully in keeping the infection at bay.

It has also been noted that herpes and genital warts might have a connection. A few people who have had herpes will be more susceptible to getting genital warts as well. This isn’t a given but a link has been established.

For the most part though you can tell the difference between herpes and genital warts as the signs and symptoms for both differ widely. For instance herpes symptoms will cause sores or blisters to appear in your genital area, whereas genital warts will cause warts to appear in and around your genital area.

Both herpes and genital warts however, have a few things in common. Depending on the particular strain of the each virus and the overall health of the person among other considerations, signs and symptoms of both herpes and genital warts may not always appear in an infected person.

In this case it can become difficult to diagnose a patient, but other signs and symptoms of herpes and genital warts will be taken into account as well. These other signs and symptoms won’t necessarily be overt or even noticed by a person, so they could remain untreated.

In the case of the herpes virus this won’t cause any problems as the outbreak of blisters will run its course and dry up. But genital warts, if left untreated can lead to cancerous cells forming where the warts were.

Also, both the herpes and genital warts viruses cannot be cured. The symptoms of the each virus can, but not the virus itself. The best thing that you could do for yourself and your partner would be to get a proper medical examination and receive a correct diagnosis. This way you will be able to receive the necessary treatment.

Genital Herpes Symptoms

Posted by admin on February 21st, 2009

Genital herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus, and there are two distinctly different types of this herpes simplex virus. These are, originally enough, called Type 1 and Type 2, or HSV 1 and HSV 2. If a person has genital herpes symptoms, it will usually show up within the first few weeks of infection.

Otherwise some people might not display any genital herpes symptoms at all. And some people will not even notice if they have genital herpes as the genital herpes symptoms can be very mild to non-existent.

In fact some people can mistake genital herpes symptoms for something as mild as a skin rash. This also depends on whether you have type 1 genital herpes, or type 2 genital herpes.

Type 1 genital herpes symptoms are generally to be found in the mouth or the nose area, whereas the type 2 genital herpes symptoms are more likely to occur in the genital area.

This does not mean however that either type of genital herpes is specific to any particular area. These are just the more common places where the different types will display genital herpes symptoms.

Genital herpes symptoms can last for several weeks, so if you are sexually active you should try to abstain from having sexual relations from the time that you first notice genital herpes symptoms, to the time when they have all cleared up. Sexual relations in this case refers not only to vaginal sex, but also to anal sex as well as oral sex.

Genital herpes symptoms can include, sores, blisters, an itching sensation and sometimes even a burning sensation, and pain when urinating. Some people will also feel feverish, experience backache, muscle aches, or headaches. Yet still other people will get genital herpes symptoms which include swollen glands, and in some cases vaginal discharge.

Genital herpes symptoms of blisters and sores can become very painful at times. To relieve this pain, and also to help in drying the sores out faster, some people use a bath comprising of 1 teaspoon of salt mixed with 1 pint of warm water.

You will need to gently bathe or pat the area with this solution to find some relief. You can also try using an ice pack on this area if you think that it might help to lessen the pain from your genital herpes symptoms.

Treatment options for genital herpes symptoms include the use of antiviral medications, or natural and home remedies. There is no cure for the genital herpes virus, although the genital herpes symptoms can be cleared up with proper care and attention.

Male Genital Herpes

Posted by admin on February 21st, 2009

If you are displaying signs and symptoms of male genital herpes, you might want to consult with you doctor to first confirm that you do indeed have male genital herpes and not a rash. And if you do indeed have male genital herpes you will also want to abstain from having sexual relations until your infection is cleared up.

Male genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease and if you indulge in sexual intercourse whether it’s anal, oral or vaginal sex, there is a better than even chance that you will pass the infection on to your partner if they don’t already have it.

This is due to the fact that genital herpes will normally manifest itself within the first few weeks of infection. You can also contract male genital herpes if you have multiple sexual partners, or you come into contact with someone who has the Herpes Simplex Virus.

Male genital herpes is also called HSV, and there are two different types of the herpes virus. These are known as type 1 HSV, and type 2 HSV. You would normally get the type 1 HSV infection in and around the mouth and nose area, and the type 2 HSV infection in and around the genital area.

Due to a number of circumstances however, one of which is the fact that more and more people are indulging in oral and anal sex, the two different types of herpes can more frequently be found in either area.

Male genital herpes symptoms include sores and blisters on the genital area, and pain when urinating if the urine passes over the sores. Some people also experience additional symptoms of fever or a flu-like feeling, a burning pain, muscle aches, back pain, and headaches. Some people also find that they have swollen glands as well as a pressure in the abdomen and discharge from the penis.

There is no cure as such for a male genital herpes infection, although there is medication available to help with the signs and symptoms of male genital herpes. For the most part though, you will need nothing stronger than painkillers to help you deal with the symptoms.

Some people will also have recurrent male genital herpes symptoms. These can sometimes recur until the immune system has had a chance to fight off the herpes virus from the body. You can also get recurrent male genital herpes if you come into contact again with an infected person.

However, some lucky people won’t even know that have male genital herpes. Due to the mild nature of their symptoms they will most likely mistake their symptoms for that of a rash and not male genital herpes.

How long does it take for tongue herpes to spread?

Posted by admin on February 20th, 2009

Yesterday I fingered a girl and while doing that i licked my finger. How long does it take for the sores to appear? I do may have burnt my tongue twice but i dont know. And i do recall biting my tongue. There is one small pink dot on my tongue where i bit it. Is this herpes?

Herpes can take any where from 2-14 days to show symptoms but it can take longer then that because your immune system can suppress the virus for months or even years after you contracted it.
Getting herpes in side of your mouth is not too common but it can happen. The pink dot could be from biting your tongue
You would be more likely to get herpes if you gave her oral sex or kissed her if she has cold sores.
If you experience any swelling, burning or tingling then you should get tested for herpes at your doctors office.

The Most Important Herpes Manifestation

Posted by admin on February 19th, 2009

Herpes - The Most Significant Symptom.

The herpes simplex virus causes outbreaks on the skin. Although there are many different types of herpes, they all cause outbreaks or lesions unique to that particular strain.

The herpes family is dominated by two strains in the main. First is the HSV 1 strain that affects the mouth both inside and out.

Spreading Genital Herpes

The other dominant member of the herpes family is the herpes simplex 2 virus which is also referred to as HSV 2. It is this herpes family member that and affects the genitalia as well as the buttocks and lower back. We will be discussing the type of eruptions this virus causes in greater detail a little further on.

Take note of the fact that although HSV 1 causes mainly herpes of the mouth, it can also easily be spread to the genitals through oral sexual activity. It is highly transmittable although it is actually a milder member of the herpes family of viruses.

The blisters or sores that sometimes appear in and around the mouth when one is getting a cold or flu are typical of HSV 1. This is referred to as oral herpes.

Herpes simplex 2 is the most commonly talked about form of herpes. This strain is passed through some form of sexual intercourse. The lesions that occur from this strain are similar to cold sores; The herpes virus that causes genital herpes is the virus that raises most concern. HSV 2 causes lesions and blisters on the genitalia and surrounding pubic areas including the buttocks and the anus.

Genital herpes (the blisters) in males will breakthrough on the shaft of the penis, the anus, the buttocks and even on the inner thighs and lower back. Woman will see the eruptions appearing over the whole of the pubic area, including the anus and buttocks. Sometimes the outbreak is that mild that a torch or flashlight is used during the examination.

So what do herpes sores look like? Sometimes herpes simply manifests as reddening of the affected area. It is popssible that you could also feel feverish and even have some flu like aches and pains. A discharge from the penis or vagina may also occur.

Those first outbreaks of herpes are usually more severe, and generally involve flu-like symptoms and swollen glands for a week or so. Following outbreaks tend to be periodic and only occur about five times a year. These herpes outbreaks can also be brought on the stress level of the infected person. The outbreak may also be elongated due to depression.
